BPG is proud of signing the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment

Bell Packaging Group (BPG) takes a leading role in designing the future of plastic by signing the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, joining with many Global Stakeholders to Reduce Plastic Waste and Pollution in the World

We at BPG believe that both aluminum and plastic are ideal packaging materials for most consumer products. We are proud to have contributed in making those first necessity products including some lifesaving ones, more affordable, and accessible in a safer and more hygienic way thus contributing to improving the living standards of millions of people.

Having said that we realize that, in order to bequeath future generations a cleaner and more sustainable world, this is the time for all stakeholders to join forces and address the issue of post-consumer scrap. Even though the necessary technology may still be in development and the economics debatable, we are convinced that there is no valid reason for plastic packaging material to be discarded in nature and in particular, in the seas.

The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment unites businesses, governments, and other organisations behind a common vision and targets to address plastic waste and pollution at its source. It is led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with UN Environment.

Launched in October 2018, the Global Commitment already unites more than 350 organisations on its common vision of a circular economy for plastics, keeping plastics in the economy and out of the ocean.

Signatories include more than 150 businesses that are part of the plastic packaging value chain, jointly representing over 20% of all plastic packaging used globally, including many of the world’s leading consumer packaged goods companies, retailers, and plastic packaging producers.

At the heart of the Global Commitment is a vision of a New Plastics Economy, where plastics never become waste. Each signatory formally endorses the vision and the need to work towards achieving it.

Elimination of problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging through redesign, innovation, and new delivery models is a priority
Reuse models are applied where relevant, reducing the need for single-use packaging
All plastic packaging is 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable
All plastic packaging is reused, recycled, or composted in practice
The use of plastics is fully decoupled from the consumption of finite resources
All plastic packaging is free of hazardous chemicals, and the health, safety, and rights of all people involved are respected

Ever since it was founded, BPG adopted sustainable production techniques for the benefit of its customers and society. Empowered by this heritage and with a clear vision to continue to reduce our environmental impact and contribute positively to the country’s economy we aim to create facilities with a “Zero Environmental Footprint” by 2025 concerning our plastic and metal production processes.

By signing the commitment at this early stage allows us to collaborate with leading large corporations. We believe that we have taken a crucial step towards addressing and eliminating the bottlenecks that stand in the way of efficient recycling processes in Turkey and across the globe.

We encourage you as a Stakeholder in the plastic value chain, to join forces with us in becoming a signatory to the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment. We need your contribution to the collaborative effort required to solve the technological and economic challenges we are facing, so as to realize our shared vision of a world where plastics never become waste.

Within the framework of this project, we have volunteered to reforest the damaged forest land of 4.5 hectares in Çatalca district, Durusu Forest Sub-district Directorate, Örencik village. In our project site, after planting Maritime Pine saplings, we will also carry out maintenance and planting work for the following 3 years under the control of an expert staff in the Forest Sub-district Directorate.

As a group of companies, which acts in the awareness that protecting and expanding forest lands have crucial importance for the next generations, we would like to particularly thank the directors of İstanbul Regional Directorate of Forestry for their support for such an important project in our 75th Year of Establishment as well as all employees of the Forest Sub-district Directorate for their help and work.
